____ are an arbitrary construct.

The PLANETARY SUBJECT is allowed unrestricted movement across the PLANET, the GLOBAL SUBJECT a single square forward move. KURUPYRA’S blindfold let an eye appear as the imbalance is the fruit of a wilful decision.

DIGZ/UTROPYKA, 2020

The grip of ____ in a NATURALCULTURAL moment is deep and resounding; their swelling presence requires constant adjustment, intertwined with a PSYCHO-PHYSICAL state that reminds us of the TROPYKS, as well as media that entertains us to soften their effect. Compliance, tolerance, or just ignoring: these behaviours related to the effect of ____ on us change over time and shape our daily choices from miKro to maKro.

In the larger ecology of curation, NON SITE/EVENT adopts the prevalence of ____ within our NATURECULTURE, traces their inflection with contemporary artistic practice, and articulates a sense of playfulness with the SUBJECT/OBJECT/MATTER that emerges in the experience of the artworks. It asks INTERDEPENDENT BEINGS to question what they take for granted, to put themselves close to ____, to face THOUGHFUL/EMOTIONAL/SENSIBLE content, or to struggle with their own NATURALCULTURAL BODY/SELVES.

As a group of artists curating A SITE/EVENT WHERE MATERIAL AND IMMATERIAL, NON-LIVE AND LIVE WORKS – AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN – CO-EXIST, we invite the visitor to enter THE SITE/EVENT as much AN UTROPYKAN PERSPECTIVE. An undefined FLUID SPACE where codes of conduct may still need to be drawn up, and perpetually reshaped. In SITE/EVENT, as much as us in each other, the visitor must have a degree of confidence and openness to question and play with expectations.

The prevailing feeling of the NON SITE/EVENT could be described by the image of a hesitant step over a threshold in which people wonder WHAT IF__________________________________? Uncertainty, INTERDEPENDENCE, PLURALITY, IMPERMANENCE, SOME of THE key concepts, lie in an exchange between MANY POSSIBLE PSYCHO-PHISICAL realities in MULTIPLE WORLDS AND DIMENSIONS.

Through the curatorial practice experimented in this NON SITE/EVENT, I/ME/WE considered the field of curation and questioned each other on what we SENSED was missing, coming to the temporary answer: Opening up to the realm of the possibilities a theme presents itself with, within the framework of a NON SITE/EVENT and beyond, is often taken very seriously, relying on codes and dogmas.

Our daily life is structured by certain prohibitions aimed at limiting the choice of action: we are told to banish doubt, be suspicious of unknown sensations, and look for meaning in dissolved stories. We may spend time and effort trying to incorporate rules, but who says there isn't much to learn from the deliberate questions about what they might mean to us?

The artwork in NON SITE/EVENT asks us to undo rigid behaviours, dwell on possibilities, rigorously explore all options, and face the positive dimensions of doubt, IMAGINATION AND SPECULATION. In similar ways, through the act of curating, we hope to bring into the larger ecology a sense of DANGER DELIGHT and playfulness between doubt and rule.
